Author Paula Hawkins has said her best-selling novel The Girl on The Train could be set in any commuter town and now US filmmakers have decided that the commuter town will be in upstate New York and not the original suburban setting in the UK.
Movie giant DreamWorks are adapting the mystery thriller which has become a publishing phenomenon for the big screen and speaking to The Sunday Times, Hawkins said: “I’m not really concerned about the repositioning as I think it is the type of story that could take place in any commuter town.”
The Girl on the Train is about a woman whose curiosity about a house she can see from her train carriage on her daily commute to work sees her becoming entangled in a missing persons case. The novel, has been described as “the new Gone Girl” and this week is at No 2 on Eason's list of best sellers.
Emily Blunt is tipped to take the lead role in the film version.
