The death has been announced of Ros na Rún actor Diarmuid Mac An Adhastair, who died on Friday evening at the age of 71.
He played the part of Séamus Mhicil Tom in the popular TG4 soap, a lovable rogue who tormented the guards and authorities with his tricks, poaching and póitín making.
The character summary on the Ros na Rún site declared of Séamus: "With his semi-permanent position on the bar stool of the local pub, he is very involved in the community. That said, Séamus is a private person who values his independence."
It added: "He does things his own way; he has he has no regard for the laws that govern drinking, fishing or the making of póitín. His gruff exterior conceals a more soft and sensitive Séamus, visible in his relationships with Mo and Reailtin, both of whom view him as a surrogate grandfather."
The veteran actor worked on many other productions, including Cré na Cille and Páirc Thomáis Taobh Istigh, as well as the short film Cosa Nite and An Leabhar. He also spent many years working in theatrical productions.
He is survived by his wife Máirín, his two sons, Caomhán and Diarmuid, and his daughter, Gráinne.
