A new award, The Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, will be presented annually to an outstanding individual who put themselves at risk to allow others to survive. Actor George Clooney and writer Elie Wiesel are co-chairpersons of the prize.
Jewish Business News reports that the recipients will be recognised for the exceptional impact their actions have made on preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes. The winner will receive a $100,000 award, as well as a $1,000,000 grant to be donated to a charitable organisation that inspired their work.
The Aurora Prize will be awarded annually on April 24 in Yerevan, Armenia.
