Legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has announced that he will release a new solo album in September, his first in 23 years.
Crosseyed Heart will span rock, country, blues and reggae, with songs written by Richards (71), as well as the drummer and producer Steve Jordan and Norah Jones, among others.
"There's nothing like walking into a studio and having absolutely no idea what you're going to come out with on the other end," Richards said in a statement.
Despite recording with the Stones since the early 1960s, this will be only his third solo album. The two predecessors are Talk is Cheap, from 1988, and 1992's Main Offender.
Crosseyed Heart will also feature contributions from the guitarist Waddy Wachtel, the Rolling Stones' backing vocalist Bernard Fowler and saxophone from the late Bobby Keys.
The most recent new studio album issued by the Rolling Stones is A Bigger Bang, which was released in 2005.
