A veritable legend of pop,the late Don Everly appears on The Session tonight, along with 'Cowboy' Jack Clement, Jim Rooney and Marty Stewart. John Prine and Lyle Lovett are also guesting on a very fine archive series originally made for RTÉ back in 1988. That's at 10.30pm on TG4. There's a repeat of The Notorious, the highly popular series which follows Conor McGregor (9.55pm RTÉ 2) in the USA, while Children Of The Gaza War (9.00pm BBC Two) follows the lives of children on both sides of the conflict.
The Session
10.30pm TG4
TG4 have been showing repeats of the original RTÉ sessions, made by Frontier Films back in the late 80s. The late 'Cowboy' Jack Clement is the brightest star in the firmament tonight. Songwriter, singer and producer, he began his career in Sun studios, recording Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. On tonight's Session he's joined by an all star line up, including Don Everly, Jim Rooney and Marty Stewart to perform a selection of country and rock n' roll classics. John Prine and Lyle Lovett make cameo appearances, performing the Rolling Stones country opus No Expectations, providing a fitting conclusion to the end of the series.
The Notorious
9.55pm RTÉ 2
In a repeat of the highly popular series - topical again, as Conor McGregor continues his epic quest to defeat all-comers – the fighter is recovering from a knee injury after his win against Max Holloway. As he battles through gruelling physio and training, he must get back to his peak for his first fight in ten months against Brazilian, Diego Brandao. The six-part series follows McGregor and his meteoric rise, as he gets even closer to becoming UFC world champion. Two episodes are shown tonight in succession, two more tomorrow night.
Children Of The Gaza War
9.00pm BBC Two
Children in Gaza and across the border in Israel have lived through three major conflicts in six years. Last summer, more than 500 children were killed in a 51-day war, all but one of them Palestinian. On the Israel side of the border, children lived in constant fear of rocket attacks and gunmen raiding from underground tunnels. Lyse Doucet follows the lives of children on both sides of the conflict in the midst of the war and through the months that followed, revealing how children born so close are growing further apart with each war. Michal, 10, lives in the kibbutz of Nahal Oz, less than a mile from the Gaza border, and has grown up with rocket attacks. The film follows the family as they take refuge away from the fighting. When they return, they discover their home has been hit. Days later their neighbour, four-year-old Daniel Tregerman, is killed by a rocket attack.
