Following the second season finale of Penny Dreadful on Showtime in the US, creator and showrunner John Logan has said that another famous character from the world of literature will debut in the Ireland-shot series next year.
The Victorian supernatural thriller, which stars Eva Green, Timothy Dalton and Josh Hartnett, is filmed in Dublin and Wicklow and features such famous literary characters as Dorian Gray and Victor Frankenstein.
In an interview with US site Entertainment Weekly, Logan said of his plans for season three: "I can tell you this - and this is such a tease, and I am sorry for it - but after two years I am finally adding another famous literary character."
He added: "It's been fun going into another writer's brain and bringing one of those great characters back into our world."
The series two finale airs on Sky Atlantic on Tuesday July 7 at 10:00pm.
The third season will begin shooting later this year and will screen on Showtime and Sky Atlantic in 2016.
