In its round-up of the best films of 2015 to date, US trade daily Variety has chosen the Domhnall Gleeson-starring sci-fi thriller Ex Machina.
Variety's Scott Foundas said the film, written and directed by Alex Garland, features "knockout performances from Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander".
Foundas described Ex Machina as "that rare piece of contemporary sci-fi filmmaking worthy of mention in the same breath as Blade Runner and The Terminator".
"Whatever this modestly scaled film lacked in budgetary heft, it more than made up for in sleekly expressive production design, provocative ideas about the fine line between man and machine," he added.
