BAFTA award-winning actor Timothy Spall is in advance discussions to portray the late Northern Ireland First Minister and founder of the Democratic Unionist Party Dr Ian Paisley in a new film The Journey.

Deadline.com, which broke the story, says The Journey will be directed by Killing Bono director Nick Hamm from a script by author Colin Bateman.

It describes the film as a "fictional account" of the relationship between Dr Paisley and Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness.

Filming is due to begin in Northern Ireland and Scotland in mid-September, with the role of Martin McGuinness currently being cast.
