Ted, the cuddly bear gone bad, is back in cinemas next week in Ted 2. Alan Corr met leading man Mark Wahlberg and he told us about Ted's Irish roots and why there was one particular scene in the new movie which saw him really suffering for his art.

Speaking about the beer-swigging, foul-mouthed yet loveable bear, Wahlberg confirmed that Ted is in fact 100% Irish.

44-year-old Wahlberg, who is of Irish descent, said: "He is absolutely 100% Irish. Ted is Boston-Irish Catholic or Boston-Irish Protestant, whatever you are comfortable with. "

The original Ted movie, which was released in 2012 and grossed $550 million, tells the tale of John Bennett whose childhood wish brings his teddy bear friend Ted to life. However as they get older, Ted keeps John and his love interest, Lori Collins (Mila Kunis), from moving in together resulting in a difficult decision for John.

Ted 2 was written and directed by Seth McFarlane who also lends his voice to Ted. Speaking about the comedian's un-pc brand of humour Wahlberg said: "No one is safe when it comes to the wrath of Seth McFarlane's comedy and humour.

"The only thing I asked him to do was to keep John out of the religious stuff as I am a devout Catholic and I don't want to cross that line."
