The third film in the Star Trek reboot series may only be in production but stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have landed lucrative deals to reprise their roles for a possible Star Trek 4.

The pair, who respectively play the iconic roles of Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock, have negotiated big pay rises to feature in a fourth instalment of the sci-fi franchise.

When Pine and Quinto signed on as part of the original cast for the 2009 reboot, their contracts featured an option for two sequels.

But now a fourth film is on the Hollywood horizon and, with two major box office hits and a likely third on the way, Paramount had to offer big bucks to keep the stars on board for any potential future sequels.

Star Trek 3 is due to be released in July 2016.
