Taylor Swift has "happily" decided to stream her album 1989 on Apple Music, after persuading the tech giant to reverse its decision not to pay artists for streaming music during users' 90-day free trial of the new service.
Swift, who plays two sold-out shows in Dublin next week, tweeted yesterday about her decision to allow her latest album to be made available via the streaming service, writing: "After the events of this week, I've decided to put 1989 on Apple Music . . . and happily so.
"In case you're wondering if this is some exclusive deal like you've seen Apple do with other artists, it's not.
"This is simply the first time it's felt right in my gut to stream my album. Thank you, Apple, for your change of heart."
The 25-year-old musician wrote an open letter to Apple Music earlier in the week, in which she described the company's stance on paying artists for their music as "shocking" and "disappointing".
She wrote on her Tumblr page: "I'm sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service.
"I'm not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months.
"I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.
"It's not too late to change this policy. We don't ask you for free iPhones. Please don't ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation."
Following the publication of the open letter, Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Services and Software, tweeted that the company had changed its mind.
He wrote: "#AppleMusic will pay artist for streaming, even during customer's free trial period.
"We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple."
