X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson sang together onstage in New York City on Tuesday night, as Duchovny releases his first album.

The Golden Globe-winning actor sang lead while Anderson harmonized with his background singers and band. “Can we play some real music please?" Anderson quipped, as Duchovny and his band returned for an encore performance at The Cutting Room.

"Is there anything you're in the mood for perhaps?" the actor asked Anderson. The actress replied: "Do you guys know Helpless?'" and the couple then duetted on their version of the Neil Young classic.

Duchovny’s debut 12-track record Hell or Highwater is released through ThinkSay records. He has already published a novel, Holy Cow: A Modern-Day Dairy Tale.

The actor started playing the guitar some years ago, and one of the first songs he learned to play was The Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.

“Making this record is a dream come true, but I never had this dream – it’s still a shock when I think about how all this music happened,” Duchovny has commented.

“What I do know is that I feel these songs represent the truest expression that I’ve ever been able to achieve and I look forward to sharing it with everyone.”
