Amal Clooney has appeared at the Supreme Court in London to plead for former residents of the Chagos Islands, who were obliged to leave their homes in the 1960s to make way for a U.S. airbase.
A legal team which is headed by Edward Fitzgerald QC - and which includes Amal Clooney - claims that the former inhabitants of the Indian Ocean islands have suffered "a significant injustice".
The Chagos Islanders have gone to the Supreme Court in London to challenge a decision made six years ago by the House of Lords. That decision effectively denied them their wish to relocate to their native islands.
Amal Clooney appeared at the Supreme Court in London yesterday to plead on behalf of the islanders.
