Harry Potter author JK Rowling has wished Berkeley balcony victim Clodagh Cogley a "speedy recovery", after a social media appeal by her brother, who said the young student was a big Harry Potter fan.

The author wrote: "Wishing Clodagh Cogley a very speedy recovery and sending much love to her, her friends and family xxx", on her official Twitter account.

Yesterday, the brother of the Irish student, who was injured in the Berkeley tragedy on Monday night, appealed to Ms. Rowling to get in touch with his sister, who is listening to Harry Potter audiobooks as she recovers in hospital.

Ms. Cogley, who is the granddaughter of former RTÉ rugby commentator Fred Cogley, suffered extensive injuries to her legs and spine from the balcony collapse that killed six people at an apartment building in Berkeley.
