Emma Stone has said that her decision to turn down a role in the upcoming female Ghostbusters remake was a matter of timing.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, The Amazing Spider-Man star said: "The script was really funny."

She continued: "It just didn't feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment - it's a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water."

The new Ghostbusters, which stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, will open in July 2016.
