U2 has partnered with Meerkat to live stream during each show of their US tour, according to USA Today. The streams are distributed on Twitter and Facebook, and are also shown at the venue.
The band began the Meerkat streaming during their Phoenix and Los Angeles concerts. The live streaming is filmed by a fan on stage and projected on to a giant screen at the show. The results are available to Meerkat app users.
"U2 has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to technology," said Ben Rubin, CEO of Meerkat. "Integrating Meerkat into their tour made perfect sense."
U2 first tested the app during two concerts in San José. Should Meerkat's experiment with U2 prove to be a success , it could lead to further streaming of not just concerts but also sporting events.
One Republic, Rascal Flatts and Questlove are already using Meerkat on tour.
