Movie critic and rock writer George Byrne passed on unexpectedly in April and to celebrate his life and memory there is a special gig at Dublin venue Whelans next Friday June 26.

Trouble Pilgrims will be performing alongside Something Happens, Paul Cleary of The Blades, Pugwash and Dermot Lambert of Blink. There will also be some special guest appearances.

Byrne and the Pilgrims – formed by original Radiators from Space members Steve Rapid and Pete Holidai - had a long association.

Lead singer Pete Holidai said: "George John Byrne was a sharp, witty and passionate man. His main loves were music and football - the proper kind. He loved to argue about both and in the vast majority of cases he was always right.

"On occasion I would invite him out to put the fear of Christ into the Rock School students in Ballyfermot College with his realistic view of the Irish music industry. 'Don't be Irish, be GREAT!' was his usual mantra.

"He hated self-indulgence and always responded with vitriol aimed to take the wind out of many overblown sails. In this regard he was particularly effective and no one was safe.

"Thankfully he liked most of what The Radiators from Space, and latterly the Trouble Pilgrims, produced," he added. "We will miss him greatly and we are honoured to take part in this memorial gig."
