Quentin Tarantino's highly anticipated Hateful Eight will get a limited US release on Christmas Day this year, with the film set to hit cinemas nationwide on January 8, 2016.

The film, which is set in the American Civil War-era, was written and directed by Tarantino and the cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Tarantino's last film, Django Unchained, was released at the same period in 2012 and earned more than $400 million / €355 million worldwide.

A statement from the Weinstein Company about the film's release reads, "We can’t think of a finer Christmas gift to be giving movie lovers and Tarantino fans this year."

Hateful Eight will be released around the same time as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Oliver Stone's drama Snowden, the Point Break remake and Will Smith's NFL drama Concussion.
