Ali & Nino, due for release later this year, stars Adam Bakri (Omar)  and Maria Valverde (Exodus: Of Gods and Kings) with Mandy Patinkin from Homeland also among the cast.   

Asif Kapadia (Amy) directed the screen adaptation of Kurban Said’s best-selling novel about two young overs in Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku, as World War 1 looms. Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons) has written the script.

Ali and Nino are teenagers from upper-class families, he is Muslim, she is Georgian  and a Christian. They marry young despite their parents’ disapproval and Ali takes his bride to spend several months in Persia. Nino must live in a harem in Persia, and be treated like an Eastern bride.
The film also feature Connie Nielson (Gladiator) as Nino's mother, while Patinkin play his father.
