Ron Moody, the veteran British actor known to generations of film fans for his Oscar-nominated role as Fagin in Oliver!, has died. He was 91.
He had been ill for some time and passed away in hospital.
His widow Therese said: "He brought joy to his family and to the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. He was singing until the end."
Born Ronald Moodnick in London, Ron Moody won a Golden Globe for his performance in Oliver!.
His other credits included Flight of the Doves, Summer Holiday, EastEnders, The Bill, Holby City and A Kid in King Arthur's Court.
He was also a published author and a composer.
The BBC reports that his biggest career regret was declining the lead role in Doctor Who.
