The discovery of what appears to be an original script for Star Wars has ended the long-standing argument between fans and George Lucas about whether or not Han Solo shot first in his encounter with the bounty hunter Greedo.
The script, dated March 15 1976, was discovered by librarian Kristian Brown in Canada's University of New Brunswick and she says: "Based on the script, I can tell you 100%, Han shot first."
The long-running `Han shot first' argument stems from the 1997 re-release of Star Wars, which altered the iconic scene in the Mos Eisley cantina in which Han kills Greedo, having drawn his pistol quicker.
George Lucas had expressed dissatisfaction with the scene as he believed it portrayed Solo as a cold-blooded killer and so the scene was altered in the re-release to have Han retaliating to an original shot fired by Greedo.
Fans were outraged with the change as they argued it cheapened Solo's transition from anti-hero to full-blown hero.
