Nick Cave’s latest book, The Sick Bag Song came into being as the musician jotted down material on actual flight sick bags while on a US tour to promote an album. The singer also recalls hanging out with Bryan Ferry.

During a visit to the Roxy Music star's home, the singer fell asleep beside the swimming pool "surrounded by beautiful orchards", as recalled in an interview in today’s Observer.

When he woke up, Ferry was in the pool, declaring that he had not written a song in years because there was nothing to write about.

"I feel a little guilty for putting it into the book, but as it was a riff on creativity, I thought it deserved to be in there", says the Australian musician.

Asked if he believed that a writer can get too comfortable, he replies: "No, because the inspiration for writing isn’t really without, it’s within. And you can write really anywhere if your imagination is in good shape. It needs to be exercised. But it doesn’t really matter where you are."
