Production has begun in the US state of Georgia on Mena, the new film which stars Domhnall Gleeson opposite Tom Cruise.
Mena is directed by Doug Liman, who previously directed Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow.
It is based on the true story of the late Barry Seal, a drug smuggler and pilot.
In a statement, director Liman said: "I love stories of improbable heroes working against the system, and Barry Seal took the government, and our country, for an unbelievable ride."
He continued: "Interpreting his story has the makings for an entertaining film that is equal parts satire, suspense, and comedy - and always surprising."
Mena also stars Sarah Wright, Jesse Plemons, Caleb Landry Jones, Jayma Mays, Benito Martinez, E Roger Mitchell, Lola Kirke and Alejandro Edda.
It is due for release in January 2017.
