Hammond Organ-led trio Organics will celebrate the music of their first album, 2005's New Light, with a gig in Dublin venue JJ Smiths on July 16.

The ensemble, who formed in 1997, features Dubliner Justin Carroll on Hammond Organ and John Moriarty on guitar. Carroll has previously worked with Iron & Wine, Van Morrison and Glen Hansard.

Record Collector Magazine described New Light (which included a version of the Postman Pat theme tune)  as “one of the finest debut recordings.”

In 2008, a second album, Liquid Sunshine followed, featuring the same personnel, included a version of Songs of Love, the theme tune of Father Ted which was penned by Neil Hannon.

Special guests at the gig in JJs  will include renowned sax-player Richie Buckley, who has worked with Van Morrison amongst others, as well as composing the score for John Boorman's film, The General.

In the early years of their career, Organics were the opening act for Gil Scott-Heron at Vicar Street. They also opened for Swedish piano trio E.S.T, Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters and electronic pioneer Bugge Wesseltoft.
