Molly Sterling will sing for Ireland tonight (May 21) at the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, marking a half-century of Irish participation.

It was in 1965 that Ireland first entered, with Butch Moore taking to the stage in Naples, singing Walking the Streets in the Rain.

The song was written by Teresa Conlon, Joe Harrigan and George Prendergast, and finished a very creditable sixth.

Dubliner Butch Moore was a huge star in Ireland at that time, and was lead singer of the Capitol Showband. He died in 2001.
