George Clooney has said that he hopes to visit Ireland this summer, but will not be going on any bicycle trips with friend Bono.

Speaking to TV3's Xposé at the premiere of his new film Tomorrowland in London, Clooney said of his planned Irish trip: "I would like to go."

He continued: "They [the media] started it because I said to someone - you know, a reporter - that I'd love to come to Ireland.

"Next thing I know I'm going to be there in a week. We're going to try and get there this summer sometime."

On the subject of a bike trip following Bono's recent cycling accident, Clooney said: "We've exchanged some emails and I think we're going to stay off of the bicycle with Bono - apparently he's very dangerous."

Tomorrowland is in cinemas this Friday, May 22.
