Molly Sterling walked the red carpet at last night's (May 17) opening ceremony for this year's Eurovision Song Contest at the City Hall in Vienna and said it was "one of the most amazing, magical nights" of her life.
The Irish Eurovision contestant attended the ceremony with her band, Jimmy Rainsford, Poilin Lynch, Jessica Supple, Naomi Clarke and Darren Sweeney and song-writer Greg French, along with Eurovision stalwart Marty Whelan.
After posing for photographers and chatted to media from across the world, Molly met other Eurovision hopefuls including Måns Zelmerlöw, the Swedish singer who is currently bookies’ favourite, the Italian act, Il Volo, a pop opera trio, Electric Velvet, the UK act and the Finnish punk act, Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät.
Sterling said of the experience: "Last night was one of the most amazing, magical nights of my life. I'm already super excited - I can't wait for Thursday. I chatted with loads of journalists on the red carpet - the guy from the BBC gave me 3 jars of honey which I thought was very sweet. Ha! Then we went into this amazing city hall with chandeliers and a gorgeous stair case. I met the guys from Finland who are punk rockers - they were very friendly.
"I told Electric Velvet to tell the UK the right thing and support their neighbours! I also met the rather dishy guy who is representing Sweden. He told me to enjoy every minute of this experience. I'd love to meet Conchita properly and have the chats because I want to be her BFF. Would also LOVE to meet Graham Norton - fingers crossed!
