Simpsons producer insists "show will go on"

The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean has said that Mr Burns and other characters will be recast if Harry Shearer decides to leave the show.

Harry Shearer, the voice veteran behind many of the characters on the hit animated comedy took to Twitter to say that he would not be returning to the Fox show. However, it is yet to be officially confirmed by the channel.

Taking to the social networking site, Jean posted: ".@thesimpsons #everysimpsonsever The show will go on, made by people who love it and see in it the most wonderful vehicle for satire ever."

Jean also replied to a number of fan's questions about the future of the show. Check out the tweets below.

Shearer, who voiced Mr Burns, Ned Flanders, Waylon Smithers, Principal Skinner and many more on The Simpsons, said on Twitter that a lawyer for executive producer James L Brooks said that he "will not be part of" the show going forward.

He took to Twitter to thank fans for their support and hinted that he is looking forward to working on new projects.
