CBS has announced that it is cancelling CSI – but the show will head to TV Heaven with a special movie event.
The network confirmed today, Wednesday May 13, that the once massively-popular forensics drama will conclude with a feature-length episode that reunites original cast members including William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger.
CSI was an instant hit in the USA when it debuted in 2000, averaging 20 million viewers by the end of its debut season, and went on to become a global success.
CSI also launched the spinoffs CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and, most recently, the just-renewed CSI: Cyber.
The cancellation of CSI seemed likely since last October, when CBS trimmed the show’s Season 15 episode order from 22 to 18.
Ted Danson subsequently announced that he would be leaving the show.
