US network ABC has announced several cancellations – including Transatlantic hits Resurrection and Forever.

But the good news is that many favourites, such as Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family, will be back.

Resurrection – the fantasy drama about dead people coming back to life - will not see a third season. The second run is currently airing on Tuesday nights on RTÉ2.

The decision not to renew Ioan Gruffudd's Forever – which runs on Thursdays on Sky 1 - for a second season has come as a bit of a surprise to the Welsh actor.

Gruffudd posted on Instagram, "My dear friends, fans, supporters. Tonight, as you all now know, I received a phone call that I was hoping not to receive, and to be honest I really wasn’t expecting it.

"I knew the numbers hadn't been great, but I also knew the studio and the network both loved the show, and of course that it had an incredible fan base…so I thought we were in with a pretty good chance."

Writing on Twitter, Gruffudd's wife Alice Evans admitted that he is "a little shaken" by the news, adding: "It's brutal, but that's show business."

The actor played Henry Morgan, an immortal New York City medical examiner who solved murders and delved into his curious condition.

Meanwhile, ABC has renewed most of its shows, including Castle, Grey's Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Scandal, American Crime, The Goldbergs, The Middle, and Modern Family.
