CBS are reported to be planning to end the run of its veteran crime series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation with a two-hour long TV movie.

According to Deadline, the US TV network is currently in the process of determining how best to end the hugely successful show, which has so far run for 15 seasons.

And while the idea of producing a TV movie to wrap up the series is apparently a popular one within CBS, another option is the possibility of ordering a short, final season of six episodes.

Questions about the future of the long-running procedural drama first began when CSI's episode order was reduced and star Ted Danson accepted a role in Fargo.

Speaking at the TCA press tour in January, CBS president Nina Tassler revealed that the future of the show was undecided, despite its continued popularity and its resultant spin-offs: CSI: Miami and CSI: New York.

A third spin-off, CSI: Cyber, starring Patricia Arquette is currently airing on CBS.
