Christoph Waltz is set to make his directorial debut in a crime drama in which he will also star.

According to Variety, the Oscar-winning actor will direct himself in The Worst Marriage in Georgetown, which is based on Franklin Foer's New York Times Magazine article of the same name.

It tells the true story of Albrecht Muth (Waltz), a 26-year-old social climber who married wealthy 71-year-old widow Viola Drath in 1971.

They entered the top political circles and threw lavish events, before Drath was found murdered at their home in Georgetown in 2011.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Auburn has written the script, and production on the film is slated to begin in October.
