Dublin Zoo's 15 macaque residents will be the stars of the show on The Zoo on RTÉ One on Thursday at 7:00pm.

Following a number of recent macaque births, the team at Dublin Zoo decide to give the troop a health check and find out which baby belongs to which mother.

Team leader Ciarán McMahon says: "We have a troop of 15 macaques, and they are always up to something they shouldn't be, like play fighting or 'borrowing' food off one another.

"As a group, they are one of the most active in the Zoo. Our plan is to grow the troop to 30 to 35 macaques, a troop size common in the wild."

He adds: "The strong birth rate on Macaque Island, the good health of the animals and the close replication of their natural habitat should make this possible."
