Ahead of its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival later this month, the poster for the Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz-starring The Lobster, which was filmed in Co Kerry, has been unveiled.

Described as an "unconventional love story", The Lobster is the first English-language film from Oscar-nominated Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, Alps) and was filmed in Parknasilla in Co Kerry in Spring 2014.

The film is set in the near future, where single people's lives depend on finding a partner.

The Lobster also stars John C Reilly, Olivia Colman, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, Ashley Jensen, Ariane Labed, Angeliki Papoulia, Michael Smiley and Jessica Barden.

Irish company Element Pictures was among the producers on The Lobster, and in a joint distribution deal with Picturehouse Entertainment will release the film in Ireland and the UK in the autumn.

Andrew Lowe, Director of Element Pictures Distribution, said: "We are very proud to have worked with Yorgos and his key creative collaborators, together with the extraordinary cast and crew and our brilliant co-producers assembled to make this most unique film.

"We are particularly pleased that The Lobster has received the honour of being selected for Competition at Cannes this year, which it richly deserves.

"We look forward to working with our colleagues in Picturehouse to ensure that The Lobster reaches the widest audience possible in the UK and Ireland when we release it later in the year."

The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 13 to 24.
