Following Bono's interview with Tony Fenton on Today FM, during which he revealed that the band would play three dates in Dublin's 3Arena over the Christmas period, we have now learned that the gigs are not yet confirmed.
A spokesperson for the band told RTÉ TEN, "Bono recorded the interview with Today FM four months ago at a time when plans and dates were still being finalised.
"He spoke to Tony at the time about what they would like to do around the shows and mooted dates, however the Irish dates are as of not yet confirmed."
In the exclusive interview with the late DJ which was broadcast yesterday, Bono talked openly about U2's upcoming tour, including details of Irish shows this Christmas.
He also discussed previous tours and revealed his favourite u2 tour, the highs and lows of being on the road and why he was `whacked on the head with a hairdryer'.
In January of this year, lifelong U2 fan and friend of band Tony was invited to join Bono and wife Ali at home in Killiney to record the interview.
According to Today FM, Tony had wanted to interview Bono for many years and, after bumping into each other on a night out, he asked Bono to come on to The Tony Fenton Show around the release of the band’s new album.
Bono promised he would. Unfortunately Tony was in hospital when U2's latest album Songs of Innocence was released. Upon hearing of Tony’s ill-health, Bono, true to his word, welcomed Tony into his home to record the interview.
