Persona, starring the great Liv Ullman - Lenny Abrahamson introduces Ingmar Bergman's classic tomorrow night.

Renowned Irish film director Lenny Abrahamson is this month’s guest at the IFI’s The Bigger Picture, introducing Ingmar Bergman’s 1966 film Persona. The Swedish classic will be screened from a 35mm print, tomorrow Wednesday May 6 at 6.30pm.

Persona is Bergman’s first film featuring actress Liv Ullman, the start of what would go on to be a significant artistic collaboration stretching over nine films.

In Persona, Ullmann plays an actress, Elisabet, who is inexplicably struck mute, and now cared for by nurse Alma (Bibi Andersson) in a remote seaside cottage. The relationship ebbs and flows as each woman strives for superiority in an intense battle of wills.

Lenny Abrahamson is one of Ireland’s leading film-makers and the director of acclaimed films such as Adam and Paul, Garage, What Richard Did and Frank

Upcoming projects include adaptations of Emma Donohue’s novel Room and Laird Hunt’s novel Neverhome.

Tickets for Persona are available from the IFI Box Office now on 01 679 5744, in person or at www.ifi.ie.
