Sam Worthington has joined the cast of The Shack.
The Avatar star has taken a leading role alongside Octavia Spencer in the big screen adaptation of William Paul Young's 2007 best-selling novel, Variety reports.
It tells the story of a man (Worthington) whose youngest daughter is abducted during a family holiday, with evidence found in an abandoned shack leading the police to believe she had been murdered.
Four years later, he gets a note from someone claiming to be God (Spencer) and returns to the shack, where he finds something that will change his life forever.
Stuart Hazeldine will direct the project from a script adapted by John Fusco.
Filming on The Shack is scheduled to begin this spring.
