Blur are to play this year's Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois according to a claim in The Irish Times

The band, who reformed in 2007, have just released The Magic Whip, their first album of new material since 2003's Think Tank and their first full album with guitarist Graham Coxon since 1999's 13.

An official announcement confirming Blur's appearance at Electric Picnic is expected next week.

This will be the band's first gig in Ireland since their appearance at IMMA in 2013. Blur have played Ireland many times. They made their first Irish appearance in 1990 under their original band name of Seymour when they played at the wedding of their late friend, Irish music journalist Leo Finlay who was an early champion of Blur in the pages of Sounds and Music Week magazine.

Since then the band have played the now closed Dublin venue McGonagles, the RDS, The Olympia in Dublin, and the Oxegen Festival in 2009, where frontman Damon Albarn dedicated The Universal to Joe Dolan.
