How many sequels does it take to complete a franchise? Well in Avatar's case it may be as many as four.
The prospect of the huge animation hit spanning five movies in total is a possibility as composer James Horner has revealed that director James Cameron currently has scripts for four follow-up films.
As of now, only three more Avatar movies have been announced, with the first set to be released in late 2017.
Horner told film website HeyUGuys: "He's got four sequels script-wise, and he's trying to make it into three. And I think that's where the effort is going right now. How do you keep it from expanding into a fifth movie?"
Cameron plans to film the series of Avatar sequels back-to-back, releasing them in consecutive years, with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana returning to voice Jake Sully and Neytiri. Sigourney Weaver is also returning to play a new character.
The original Avatar was released in 2009, and took a record-breaking $2.8bn at the global box office.
