Maika Monroe has taken the female lead in Independence Day 2.
The It Follows star is reported to be playing the daughter of the President of the United States, who is the love interest to Liam Hemsworth's character.
Director Roland Emmerich confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: "I have another addition to announce. The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!"
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monroe beat off competition from actresses Lucy Boynton, Merritt Patterson, Gabriella Wilde and Britt Robertson who also auditioned for the sought-after role.
The movie will also star newcomers Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jessie Usher, while Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch will reprise their roles from the 1994 original.
Independence Day 2 will be release on June 24, 2016 to mark the 20th anniversary of the classic sci-fi blockbuster.
