London theatre fans and visitors will be able to watch a true Hollywood star on the West End stage in the near future.

According to Digital Spy, Nicole Kidman has signed up to star in a production of Photograph 51 - her first West End role in 17 years.

The last time Kidman starred on stage in the UK capital was her briefly-naked performance in David Hare's The Blue Room back in 1998.

This time around Michael Grandage's production of Anna Ziegler's play focuses on British scientist Rosalind Franklin, but a starting date and venue have yet to be announced.

Photograph 51 is named after an X-ray image taken by a Franklin, researcher at King's College London, which later revealed the double-helix shape of DNA.

Franklin was largely overlooked for her discovery, which led to Francis Crick and James Watson's research that won them a Nobel Prize. The play will focus on the background of Franklin's discovery, and the sexism she endured afterwards.
