Calvary and The Guard writer-director John Michael McDonagh has begun filming his black action-comedy War on Everyone in New Mexico, with Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Michael Peña (Fury) and Theo James (Divergent) in the lead roles.

ScreenDaily.com, which broke the news of the start of filming and James' casting, says War on Everyone tells the story of two corrupt police officers who appear to have picked the wrong person to victimise.

With the release of a Peña and Skarsgård publicity photo, McDonagh said: "It gives me great pleasure to declare War on Everyone with my fellow combatants, Michael Peña and Alexander Skarsgård."

McDonagh continued: "We look forward to the battles ahead, and we will go on with a spirit that fears nothing. That's Homer, by the way."

ScreenDaily.com says the cast also includes Tessa Thompson (Dear White People), Caleb Landry Jones (X Men: First Class), Paul Reiser (Whiplash), Stephanie Sigman (Miss Bala) and Irish actor David Wilmot (The Guard).
