GoT star had "no idea" about character's fate

A certain Game of Thrones cast member has said they had "no idea what was going to happen" to their character ahead of the events in the season five opening episode. Spoilers ahead.

Ciarán Hinds, who played Mance Rayder on the hit series, met his end in the opening episode of the show's fifth season for refusing to bow before Stannis Baratheon. Speaking with Access Hollywood the star revealed he had no idea about his character's grisly fate.

Hinds said: "I had no idea what was going to happen. I had a kind of inkling that when Stephen [Dillane – Stannis Baratheon] and Liam [Cunningham – Ser Daavos Seaworth] turned up outside the tent that I might be in soapy water, as they say."

He added: "I got a lovely email from [producers David Benioff and DB Weiss] just explaining to me, very courteously, that as I know, all men must die, I was next up and it had been a pleasure and ta-ra for now. It was a lovely email actually... And I was going like, 'Oh, okay', and I wrote, I hope, a courteous one back, saying, 'I understand', and, 'Thank you for the ride'."

The actor also revealed his biggest regret from his time on the show was not getting to work with Dillane and Cunningham more, "I was rather sad not to work with them because they're fantastic actors – Stephen and Liam."
