Film giants Disney and Spielberg: big and friendly

Walt Disney Studios will co-produce and co-finance Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG, making it the first time that the veteran director has made a Disney-branded movie.

Wolf Hall's Mark Rylance who will play the 'Big Friendly Giant' and newcomer Ruby Barnhill will play Sophie. 

The full cast has also been confirmed with the following actors set to play the giants of Dahl's much-loved book:

Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live), Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), Michael David Adamthwaite (The 100), Daniel Bacon (Iron Man: Armored Adventures), Chris Gibbs (Spun Out), Adam Godley (The Theory of Everything), Jonathan Holmes (Nightwatching), Paul Moniz de Sa (Two Brothers and Two Others) and Olafur Olaffson (Walking Into the Night).

Downton Abbey's Penelope Wilton has landed the role as The Queen, while Rebecca Hall will take on the part of Mary, the Queen’s maid.

Spielberg will reunite with Melissa Mathison, who wrote the script for Spielberg's classic ET

Production is currently underway in Vancouver with the film slated for release in July, 2016.
