Jeremy Clarkson has pulled out of his planned appearance on Have I Got News for You.

The presenter had been scheduled to host the BBC satirical news show on April 24, which would have marked his first major television slot since being sacked from Top Gear.

However, a producer for Have I Got News for You has now announced that it will not go ahead.

Jimmy Mulville from Hat Trick Productions told the London Evening Standard: "On reflection, Jeremy Clarkson has decided not to host Have I Got News for You. We fully expect him to resume his hosting duties later in the year."

It was announced by the BBC on March 25 that Clarkson's contract on Top Gear would not be renewed following an investigation into the presenter's physical and verbal attack on producer Oisin Tymon.
