#TBT Moby takes over the world with Play

Fifteen years ago today, Moby topped the UK album chart for the first time with Play - it went on to sell more than 12 million copies.

A mix of largely old gospel and folk samples with contemporary dance rhythms, Play became a phenomenal success, spawned several hit singles, and provided the soundtrack for many television ad campaigns.

It turned Moby from a cult figure into a worldwide star and Play managed platinum sales in no less than 20 countries. The downside was that everyone got pretty sick of the album in a short period as it was everywhere.
