Animals galore and a giant monster are our picks for tonight.
The Zoo
7:00pm, RTÉ One
It's been a long wait since Christmas for more Zoo fun, but here we are with episode one (of 10!) of season six. As ever, there are plenty of new arrivals to look forward to: three elephant pregnancies, new lion cubs for Sita and Suri, a foal in the zebra herd, the birth of a Goeldi's monkey and flamingo chicks. Now calling Dublin Zoo home is West African chimpanzee Marlon, with the team hoping his Casanova credentials will see him becoming the much-in-demand alpha male. But how will the incumbent, Austin, feel? In adventures away from the Phoenix Park, zookeeper Kenneth Mackey travels to Zimbabwe to find out more about efforts to save the black and white rhinoceros from extinction. Our bag is packed – has been since Christmas.
Godzilla
9:00pm, Sky Movies Action
For this 2014 outing, the big guy was coaxed back to Hollywood by Gareth Edwards, director of the cheap-as-chips-and-just-as-tasty Monsters. They made a nice couple. At various times recalling a burning building, a sunken ship, a Great White shark, a big UFO and events on a planet called LV-426, Godzilla has as much for nostalgia nerd as newbie alike. The effects are excellent, the destruction epic and the pacing is of the stuff-your-face-with-as-much-as-you-can variety, with the clenched jaws and red phones of disaster flicks thrown in. Repeat viewing does not lessen the fun.
The Supervet
8:00pm, Channel 4
More jaw-dropping moments of a different kind with Noel Fitzpatrick and his team. Tonight, there's a young rabbit called Speedy who has a broken leg after a lovers' tiff, a pup called Snoopy in need of a prosthetic and a bulldog named Winston with a mysterious paralysis. Noel and co to the rescue, then - and warm and fuzzy feelings galore.
