Sinéad Gleeson chats to Joan As Policewoman, John Kelly visits IMMA to speak to Seán Kissane and John Kelly reviews Noah Baumbach’s new film While We’re Young.
Tonight on The Works, Sinéad Gleeson chats to Joan As Policewoman, aka singer-songwriter Joan Wasser, about trying something different with her current album The Classic, how she started playing music and what collaborating with other artists has taught her.
John Kelly visits IMMA to speak to Seán Kissane, the curator of a major new retrospective of Gerda Frömel’s work. Born in Czechoslovakia, Frömel moved to Ireland in 1957 and quickly became one of the most respected sculptors in Ireland but died tragically in 1975. This is the first major exhibition of her work since 1976.
Irish Times journalist Patrick Freyne and author Sarah Baume join John Kelly to review Noah Baumbach’s new film While We’re Young. Starring Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried, the film looks at a 40-something couple’s unlikely friendship with some young hipsters in their twenties.
The Works also looks at Things We Throw Away, a series of pop-up operas which are part of the inaugural MusicTown festival. Inspired by everyday stories such as geriatric adultery, falling asleep in the pub and the smoking break in work, these short operas will be performed live on the streets of Dublin.
Music, art, film and opera - a great mix for your arts fix as always on The Works. Tonight, 8.30pm on RTÉ One.
