Johnson was first linked to the project in December.

Moana is set more than 2,000 years ago and tells the story of the adventurous daughter of a Polynesian chief as she sets off on an impossible-looking mission to find a mystical island.

John Musker and Ron Clements will direct the musical film, which will use a mix of traditional and computer animation.
