Marina Diamandis of Marina and the Diamonds has revealed that she "didn't necessarily" want to be a pop star following her second album, Electra Heart, which featured her hit track, Primadona.
Speaking to RTÉ TEN, the singer, whose new album FROOT has a completely different sound to Electra Heart, said of her change in style: "It just kind of happened; I knew I didn't want to necessarily be a pop star after Electra Heart."
She added that she did not feel pressure with this album to live up to the other two records: "I don't really feel pressure because I don't look at the other two as being hugely successful. I sort of look at it the other way."
FROOT, which is out now, leaked online months before its scheduled release date, so we asked how that feels as an artist to have that happen.
"I actually wasn't devastated at all. But it's the nature of being an artist in the 21st century in a digital world. I was just like 'typical'. The people that leak these things don't appreciate the work that goes into them," she said.
Inspiration can strike at any time, with the singer adding: "I find lyrically things can come to me in the car, the shower, anywhere. But when it comes to writing music I need to be by myself."
One Direction have their Directioners, Justin Bieber his Beliebers and Lady Gaga has her Little Monsters. Marina's Diamonds are very important to her and she loves to interact with them on Twitter: "I do. I look at the mentions and talk to them when I can. I have such great fans that really get behind me."
